Why

Let me helpĀ you to take your playing to the next level in London onĀ Saturday 5th October.Ā This is theĀ ONLY workshop I will run in London this year.

My workshops are very different to others out there. They genuinely work for mixed abilities, will meet you at your level but also inspire you to the next step, whether you're just starting or are performing jazz.

They're also a great opportunity to meet the other students, see where you can be in the next year, or perhaps inspire newer students to reach for their next step.

Can't I just learn this in a lesson?

There are skills you can NOT learn in a one-to-one lesson

Whilst some students have been too scared to come. Others have figured out that they'll learn most from watching others receiving tips that often change their playing instantly.

Here are just a few things you will get from workshops with me that you can't get in a lesson or on JazzSkills.com:

  • Learning to play with other people
  • Learning from watching others being taught
  • Getting inspiration by meeting other students and seeing what you can do within the next year

Structure

Theme - Rhythm & Swing

We've had these workshops for many years, which has given me time to see what helps students the most. It works best when there is flexibility and I respond to what's happening on the day. I teach by considering the needs of those who attend and I structure things accordingly. With this in mind, the following will give you a good idea of what normally happens.

  • We will allocate plenty of time for students to play (if they want to) and I will teach the higher level players.
  • There will be a bass player and possibly voice or other instruments. Bass is certain, others depend on who books.
  • I might have a separate presentation. Otherwise, I will teach the workshop theme using student pieces to illustrate.
  • Playing session (optional to take part) - Where my students bring tunes to play alone or in groups and get help from me and others. I understand that people feel the fear so we make sure it's not a scary environment at all. In fact, we are a really supportive and friendly group. I am very proud of the changes I've seen in regular attendees. We will support the beginners to get them playing in a workshop. I will dig a little deeper with intermediate-advanced players, to make sure everyone gets something out of it.
  • Videos of workshop playing & teaching shared privately with you afterwards
  • Followed by drinks and food nearby. Do stick around if you can. We are a very welcoming and friendly bunch!
