Get Started

Does this sound familiar?

  • You come from classical, pop, or another style, or you’ve been trying jazz for years, but it’s never really clicked into fluency.
  • You’ve worked through theory, books, and YouTube, but the ideas don’t land when you play.
  • You can play a tune or two, but everything feels fragile when you add more.
  • You can’t really improvise or open tunes up with freedom.
  • You’ve tried lessons or membership sites, but they feel like collections of material rather than a clear path.

Effort alone isn’t enough.

You need a clear path.

Why this keeps happening

Jazz is often taught as something to copy, rather than a set of skills designed to build fluency in the language of jazz.

As a result, many players end up collecting isolated tips and ideas that don’t lead to fluency, instead of building a core set of skills designed to make the language of jazz playable.

What most people end up doing

  • Jumping from tip to tip, hoping the next idea unlocks something.
  • Playing tune after tune by reading or remembering, without developing the freedom to improvise or speak the language of jazz in real time.

The approach

Good playing doesn't automatically equal good teaching.

Learning jazz should be more than getting people to copy the notes you're playing.

Playing jazz involves learning a set of skills (not just tunes).

Jazz is a language that can be organized.

Teaching appropriate skills for each level and aiming for clear progress targets works.

Members are students and every student matters to me. All questions are answered and the content I create is often based on the struggles that students may be going through.

Who I help

I work with pianists who are just getting into jazz, all the way up to those who teach and perform.

  • Pianists who are new to playing jazz, learning the chords and common chord progressions in jazz.
  • Those who think they've tried every theory book, course and video but still aren't fluent.
  • Advanced players looking to improve chord movement, voicings, improvisation and general playing level.
  • Not just pianists. We have members who are mainly guitarists or horn players too.
  • Those interested in learning Barry Harris chord movements, voicings and improvisation techniques.

What you'll learn

Students here learn to speak the language of jazz.

You'll learn chords in keys, the common chord progressions used in every jazz standard, solo piano with full right-hand chord melody, playing in a group, improvisation from scratch, rhythm, authentic voicings and chord movements.

How to learn it all with a structure that gives the best results.

How we'll do it

My teaching consists of videos, smart practice tracks, webinars and individual help.

I teach on 3 levels

  1. Learning the chords, common progressions & comping several tunes in a few keys

  2. Voicings, right-hand melody. Beginning improvisation. Rhythmic considerations.

  3. Advanced voicings, movements, improv concepts and more.

My teaching method is based on having taught over 40,000 one-to-one lessons and teaching Jazz Skills members for 9 years.
